How to build Lesson pages in Moodle

The Lesson activity consists of a series of Web pages that are presented to the student. In its simplest form, it contains a button at the bottom of the page that sends students to the next page in the Lesson. Lesson is powerful and can be used to make self-directed, branching modules that adapt to student choices. Follow the steps below to learn how to create lesson pages:

Display the lesson.

This can be done by either clicking on an already existing Lesson or clicking "Save and display" during the initial creation.

Start by clicking "Add a content page."

If this lesson was created previously click  the "Edit" tab.


Complete the required fields.

1. Add a Page title, which is required. This is what displays as the name of the page.

2. Page contents is the text, images, and videos that display on the page.

3. If checked content buttons (navigation buttons) will display horizontally.

4. If checked a left menu will display with links to each lesson content page.


Determine the Content buttons, think of these as navigation buttons.

1. Name displayed on the content button, such as next, previous, or continue.

2. This drop-down menu changes the Description box from plain text to having html editor buttons by selecting HTML format.

3. The jump determines where the content button will take the user. As lesson pages are created the name of each page will appear in this drop-down menu to be able to select specific pages that may not be a next or previous page.


Click "Add a question page."

This button title choice is slightly deceiving. It actually behaves like a save button, by clicking this button the created page will be saved it will not add a question page.


To add a question page, click the Action drop-down menu and select "Question."

Determine which type of question to add, then click "Add a question page."

Complete the Page title, Page contents, Answers, Responses, Jumps, and Scores for the question type selected.
