How to view Activity logs for a particular activity in Moodle

Activity logs can be filtered for a specific course, group, participant, date, and activity. These logs show how many views occurred for the activity. Follow the steps below to view an Activity log for a particular activity.


While viewing the Activity itself, navigate to the Administration block and click "Logs."

Note: Joule has "core" reports and "advanced" reports.  This lesson describes the core reports.


View the raw logs for activities and students within the course.

Click on the various drop down menus to filter the report, and click "Get these logs" when you are done.

Filter the logs by course, group, participant, date, and more. 


Click on "Reports" in Administration > Course Administration to access an alternative list of report types.

The types of reports available include "Course completion, Logs, Activity report, Course participation, Activity completion, and Statistics." Also available is Dashboard, which links to Joule Reports.

Select a report.

In this example "Activity report" has been selected.


The "Activity report" table expresses the number of views each course activity has received from participants.

Clicking on the course activity links will open to the individual activities.


Click "Course participation" from Administration > Course Administration > Reports to view the break-down participation report of a particular course activity.


On the participation report, select the "Activity module" drop down menu to select an activity.

This report can also be filtered by "looking back" only a certain number of days, or filtering out the roles, or for the particular actions.


This example shows how to filter by "all activities" down to a specific activity.

Clicking on "Go" will produce a list of all the logged actions associated with the chose activity.
